Even if the number of registered players has exceeded 160, it is still possible to register. In case there is not enough room, we will let you know and you will be placed on the waiting list.

This is because some people have cancelled, while other will be around but told us they prefer not to play and just see their GO friends.

attendance confirmation procedure

In order to speed up the attendance confirmation and late registration on Saturday, we have decided on the following procedure:

Players who have preregistered and paid their fee, will confirm their attendance at the desk in the building entrance. They will be paired automatically for the 1st round.

Players who have to pay something should go directly to the registration desk, queue #1 (priority).

Players who have not preregistered should also go to the registration desk, queue #2. Registration is subject to availability (max capacity 160 players).

Please remember your registration number and have it available in order to speed up the player search on the printed lists. The number can be found on the registration lists available on this website and that will be posted on the walls near the desks.

On Sunday attendance confirmation is done by just circling the player name on the list posted at the registration desk.

We are very happy to have so many people registered. However, this forces us to send to all participants a group of messages and warnings in order to achieve a smooth and well-organized tournament. Thank you for your cooperation.

1st round pairings at 9:45

Late registration (not guaranteed) and attendance confirmation closes at 9:45. Everyone MUST confirm his attendance in order to be paired in the first round.

This has been on the schedule since the beginning, but we want to emphasize it: You have to pay and confirm your attendance (just say hello, that's me) on the registration desk before 9:45. Otherwise you won't be paired for the 1st round. This is to avoid having people paired that get to know 30 minutes after the round started that their opponent could not come that morning.

Please don't make 160 people wait for you, or let somebody who may come from abroad without an opponent.

In order to speed up on-site registration and attendance confirmation, please check out and remember your registration number. For example, Jordi Urmeneta is registered player #001.

The maximum numbers of players will be 160. Players who have paid before the tournament have their participation guaranteed.

Players not having paid before Saturday at 9:30 will be eligible for registration cancellation in case there are players on the waiting list.

Catalin Taranu 5p, teaching professional

The tournament organizers wanted to thank all the participants for their massive response. We thought that a good thing to offer would be having a teaching professional at the playing venue. We have therefore decided to bring one of the most famous professionals in the European go scene, who also has an excellent reputation as a teacher.

So, Catalin Taranu, 5 dan professional from the Nihon Kiin will be available at the playing venue. He will stay in a separate room 1 hour after the round start, so that players can bring their games for public analysis and commentary.

He will also be in charge of the workshop on Friday night at the GO club (not the tournament playing venue).

We have decided to make his activities outside the tournament venue non-free. Therefore, attendance to his lectures at the GO club will require an affordable and fair contribution. An extra fee will be necessary to take part in the simultaneous games. Details soon.

The teaching activities by Catalin Taranu 5p outside the tournament venue will take place at the la pedra GO club, and will be as follows:

18:00 : thorough and detailed commentary of a tournament deciding game

Entrance to the GO club facilities will cost 6€ on Friday, 2€ on Saturday, and 3€ on Sunday for players registered for the tournament or la pedra club members (other players will have a +50% surcharge). A forfait allowing attendance to the 3 sessions will be available for 8€. Players willing to play on the simultaneous should add 5€ per game.

It is already possible to make reservations for Catalin lectures. Seats for the simultaneous are available on a first come - first served basis. Just email the organizers (Marc). These fees are subject to modification, but we guess they will not change much.

Actually he will be available since Thursday afternoon, therefore if you are in Barcelona at that time and want to have a lecture with him on Thursday night or Friday morning that is of course possible.

regarding Saturday lunch

We are happy to have so many people registered, but this has made it impossible to offer a catering solution for lunch for everybody at the playing venue.

A map with the closest restaurants around will be posted at the registration desk. Please go have lunch as soon as you can, so that the 2nd round is not delayed. It will be possible to have some sandwiches at the tournament bar. We will also arrange for take away food.

Take into account that the availability of bars, eateries, and shops around the venue is very limited.

We have just happened to know that the Chinese restaurant WanZhen, which was expected to be a meeting point for side events, will be closed during the tournament for works and refurbishing. Therefore we shall meet at a nearby restaurant called Mariona (ronda Sant Pere 62).

drop-out poster

Please use the drop-out poster.

It is possible that for whatever reason, you are not able play on all rounds, or perhaps you want or need some relax. In case you want to drop some round, you MUST use the registration poster. This way you will not be paired on these rounds and there will not be somebody waiting for you.

We'd like to remind to players in the top bar that according to EGF-Pandanet competition rules, they are not allowed to miss a round. Doing so can affect the tournament result and whether a prize goes to a player or not.

Players not using the drop-out poster, at the very least will not be paired for the next round.

sunday morning: must confirm attendance too

In order to be paired for the 4th round, it is required to confirm attendance on Sunday morning too.

This confirmation is easier than on Saturday, it is enough to mark your name on the wall list posted on the registration desk when you arrive on Sunday morning. Players failing to do this may not be paired for the 4th round. If you will be arriving late, give us a phone call or let somebody know and tell us.

We are very sorry for this warning, but unfortunately every year some players don't show off on Sunday morning, either because they are tired, drunk... that means somebody who woke up early wasted 3 hours waiting for the guy to come.

new advance payment term

There's an extra term (until Friday, February 19) for advanced payment.
The only payment method accepted the same day will be cash (euros) -- no credit cards, cheques, etc accepted.

This is in order to reduce to the strict minimum the number of people who pay in cash at the registration desk, we have added a new advance payment term. It is a bit more expensive than the previous but cheaper than on-site payment.

Please make use of this feature. We are running out of space. Also, we think it is best to avoid slow cash payments in order to not to delay the start of the first round.

We recommend alberguinn youth hostel.

It's nice, clean, cheap, and not far from the tournament venue, and can be a meeting point for the players coming to the tournament. Just tell them you are attending the go tournament, so you are assigned a room with other GO players.

If you have made a reservation please tell us it in the comments section (or by email) so that you get in touch with other players.

Metro line 3 links the hostel (plaça del centre station) with the tournament venue. Bus line 54 goes through a similar route, but it may probably be slower.

- MacMahon 5 rounds
- Time: 60 min main + byoyomi 5 min / 20 stones (or 7 periods of 20 seconds)
- Ruleset: japanese, as it is published in english at http://www-2.cs.cmu.edu/~wjh/go/rules/Japanese.html and translated to spanish at http://www.aego.biz/documentos/reglasjaponesas.pdf

EGF ratings will be applied strictly. Prevent the organizers at least 2 weeks in advance if you have a consistent reason against that.

Rounds are expected to start on time. This means that registration will close at 9:45 on Saturday. Please pay in advance, there are several methods provided. Players are required to confirm attendance before the day first round (rounds 1 and 4), otherwise won't be paired.
Players that do not take part on a round without in advance notification will be dropped from the tournament.
We hope you understand these hard policies, it's not nice to have 106 people waiting for the round to start because somebody did not arrange earlier, or to have somebody without opponent (unfortunately we always have 2 or more of such cases).
